Drug
Rehab House
The Drug Rehab House is situated about 30 mins north
of Moscow accessible only by car. The Metro does not
extend that far north. It is in a small "Dacha" which means
it's a primitive cabin used in the summer time. This Dacha
has been rented for $120 month and normally would house
one family. There are 12 men crammed into two bedrooms
and sleeping in their sleeping bags on the floor in the living
room. They take their meals down a ladder in the very cramped
basement. They share the "outhouse" that is about 50 yards
away. It is usually below freezing in Moscow during the winter
and of course there is no heat in the breezy outhouse. Can you
picture how cold it is getting out of the house, walking in the
freezing weather to the outhouse and then feeling the numbing
cold
while there and then back again?
The goal is to build a modern sleeping quarters for them, near
the new church building we hope to build. This will allow the
men and women to attend seminary and church and learn skills
that will help them as they grow in God. They are so thankful
for the Drug Rehab Center and the care that the Director, Misha
and the others provide. Most meals are potatoes, vegetables,
occasional meat and bread. They spend most of their day working
in the neighborhood doing jobs to help support the center. Misha
and his wife just had their first baby, and we were able to help them
buy diapers and clothes. The need is ongoing both for the Drug Rehab
Center and for
the Director and his family.
There are countless others on the streets of Moscow, with no place
to go. Alcoholism is rampant and the needs are great. We can make
a big difference as we help Misha and his ministry.
